Flat out one of my favorite songs. Possibly one of my all time favorites. This is the epitome of a “happy” song. It feels good. It’s the kind of song that if you had a convertible (any year, make, or model), and had your special convertible mix CD (or IPod play list as it were), this would be the first song you’d play every time you went out cruising, and you’d probably hit repeat a few times.
The guitars, the vocals, melody, harmonies, layers of sound… it’s just frickin’ good. This is what The Mamas & The Papas and/or The Beach Boys would sound like if they formed bands today and started making music. This is 60’s pop music re-imagined for the new millennium.
Fair warning, as sweet an opener as Nature is, the rest of the album is seriously eclectic. It will challenge and frustrate you (Race Baiting Jailbait Race is pretty cool), I wish they had stuck with a pattern similar to what they started with the opener, but they’re exploring and will hopefully find a clear groove and direction. If not, this will still always be one of my favorite tunes.
